This shaded lawn was transformed into a serene space, restful to sit in and providing a tranquil backdrop to the kitchen and dining room.  The restricted plant palette is in keeping with the restful atmosphere, drawing the eye to the form and texture of the plants.

 

The sparsely-planted gravel garden allows for several routes and naturally occurring paths to traverse the space, whilst the restricted plant palette ensures the desired restful atmosphere is maintained. 

 

The strong forms of ilex crenata balls and interesting branch structure Corylus contorta that fill the garden provide year-round subtle changes, always in keeping with the garden's form, with the texture of ferns and grasses adding interest across the seasons and throughout the year.
